Welcome to the polymer clay studio.
My name is Terry, I’m an artist and web designer. I’ve created this site to share some ideas, tips and tricks for using polymer clay. I love to work in a variety of media, but my favorites are acrylic paint, watercolor and polymer clay.
I first discovered polymer clay more than 30 years ago, when I was searching for a sculpture medium that was easy to use at home for small projects. I was creating small marionette puppets and needed a way to sculpt detailed hands and heads.
Once I got started working with polymer clay, I learned about the millefiori technique. It means “a thousand flowers” in Italian, and has been used for hundreds of years to make tiny flower designs in rods of glass.
It can also be used in polymer clay to create flowers or any type of tiny pictures, patterns or designs. I quickly became hooked on the bright colors and versatility of this clay and began a small home business crafting and selling handmade beads and jewelry to local shops.
These are a couple of beads I created back then using the millefiori technique that was originally developed for creating decorative glassware.

This technique is most commonly used to design flower patterns, there are some tutorials on how to create your own millefiori canes here.
Thanks for visiting.
Terry
